Scientific World:
Working hand in hand with scientists from universities and institutions, Carlos has innovated in the development and manufacture of video-based monitoring systems for the seabed.
Towed cameras that transmit geolocated underwater video signals from depths of up to -100 m, or stereoscopic BRUVS (Baited Remote Underwater Video Systems), are among the projects completed by Glowdive.
A Bit of History:
Carlos’s beginnings in underwater imaging date back to 1991, when he started filming the seabed of the Cantabrian Sea using a homemade housing.
His passion led him to pursue underwater photography professionally, traveling across all six continents and photographing for the most prestigious magazines in the field. His images have appeared on more than 120 magazine covers and illustrated hundreds of articles, in addition to winning numerous international awards. His documentaries have been honored at the most important underwater film festivals. He settled in the Caribbean, where for years he logged more than 1,000 camera dives annually. He also worked in Australia and Papua New Guinea, always behind the viewfinder of a camera. Today, Glowdive’s base of operations is in Biscay, Spain.
Living underwater photography up close every day—through the courses and photo trips Carlos leads—he identified the need to create and improve certain products to make the photographer’s experience more enjoyable and to help achieve better images.
Light Dome diffusers, bayonet systems for lenses, flip-up lens holders, snoots, fluorescence filters, flexible arms, compact camera kits, ring flashes, screen viewfinders… these are just some of the products manufactured by Glowdive that have revolutionized the way underwater photography is done and are used by photographers all over the world.
